Linux sucks.

I’ve seen this awesome presentation recently about linux. It wasn’t a flame war but a real and well argumented discussion. Linux sucks for the desktop and we know it.

But even so, we love it, keep using it. Because it really needs us and we have to keep believing in it no mater what.

The subtitle of the presentation was “And what can be done to fix it“.

If you don’t have the time to watch it, the conclusion is:

  • use standardized back-ends for package management, audio & video frame works etc
  • things need to be made simple
  • commercial software must be encouraged as well
  • free & open source software is not actually 100% free, because developers are human beings and need to eat (they sacrifice more than enough already contributing to open source, so help out and even consider donating)
  • DON’T encourage useless code duplication!

  • Linux chiar "sux" si asta la nivel maxim , doar blender functioneaza corect pe el dar de multe ori da rateuri sistemul nu blender , asa ca windows fie el vista ,xp sau 7 e mult mai solid cel putin ca sistem ca mai pica blender o face de la buguri dar in general e stabil.

    Nu se poate spune de linux ca are drivere stabile si nici ca nu iti distruge hardiscul din cauza unui kernel crash.
  • By free most people as you seem to means no payment but as RMS everytime he talked told us there are more that the freedom not to pay for a software package is just one of the aspects of software freedom. Also donations are just a way to be friendly and to show the developer that you really like its software.
